I bought one of those cheapo fishing scales(£4), manual spring operated one, and have on a hook in garage ceiling. It weighs up to 50lbs, fine fore bikes but wouldn't be any good for weighing individual components, you'd need a digital one for that. So:-

Giant Hybrid - 22lbs
Pub bike - 29lbs
Commuter - 35lbs - this includes rack and guards, the SRAM 9 speed hub gear is 6.5lbs on its own, the 35mm M+ tyres weight 2.2lbs each, the frame is a 60cm Surly Crosscheck steel, weighs about 7lbs frame and forks. The rims are Mavic A719 touring ones, not bad at 1.2lbs each. Comfy enough that another Crosscheck frame is on my shopping list.

On days like today (cats and dogs) my Go Faster (TM) bike is relegated to the shed and out comes my Ridgeback Tank (a Cyclone with go slower tyres). At work a new set of scales has appeared so I brought the bike in to weigh it. I've known it was heavy, but I wasn't sure exactly how much.

14.6kg! Just over 32 lbs! In fact it is worse than that. I carry my lock on the bike, so that takes it to 16kg or about 35lbs!;)

So does anyone have a heavier commuter? This is why I am still looking for a new (second hand) winter hack!

I only have one bike - and it is a Ridgeback Cyclone. Add to is rack, mud guards and one pannier it is pretty heavy. Though I have put slick tyres on it and when they need replacing I think I will reduce them from 25mm to 23mm.

I wouldn't agree with your assessment of it being a tank though. More like a Volvo estate - unfancy, slow, but sturdy and reliable.

I'm I ever do get around to buying a proper road bike I guess it will seem very fast compared to my Cyclone.

Your tyres are very fat -try some 25mm slicks - it made a noticeable difference to my Cyclone

That would involve spending money on it, and unfortunately money is tight. the money I do have will hopefully get me a cheapish winter hack (road bike style). My commute looks like it will be 10 miles each way. I'm not keen on using a hybrid for that.

Oh and it would also involve taking those tyres off. Have you ever tried to get Marathon Plus tyres off!? :ohmy:xx(

Hmm. i forgot about my rucksack. I reckon today that was about another 5 kilos (lunch, some cans, tubes, tool, clothes, helmet cam equipment etc).

Good training I suppose! :o)

Not long back from shopping... combined weight of bike, trailer and weeks worth of food shopping - 72 Kg /158 lb. I should add I was not on my roadster but riding the much lighter Phillips/Dahon folder.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
My old commuter hit the scales at 12 .5 kg before i stuck guards , rack, lights, and a bag weighing around 5 kg stuffed with sarnies +clothes+ tools + innertubes etc , and that was a 10 mile commute !!.

Just think of how much lighter your real bike will feel after you use this as a training run

My best and only bike (Trek hybrid, excluding lock & panniers) comes in at 14+ kg, I weighed it only recently after seeing and lifting some of the fine carbon steeds of fellow CC Ecosse-rs recently ...

Have been contemplating n+1 for a little while now

My hybrid is about 15kg - Ridgeback too. But then I go and add another 8kg of laptop and clothing. ;)
