Arse no, but I've heard story's of the runs induced by the diluted remains of dead sheep, general roadkill and even more general farmyard excrement.

I hate mudgaurds, but I also hate the runs, especially with so many miles to ride.

IMHO it is a tactical decision taken the night before the start based on the best available 10 day forecasts. Whilst they may not be accurate on a daily basis you should be able to determine whether its gonna be a very wet one or not. Only the very brave would go without on a consistently wet one. Anybody can get through a wet day but a wet week is very different.

I believe the wet PBPs show that mudguarders do much better.

Oh and temperature matters. Warm rain is a nuisance, cold rain is a killer.


Sept 24th,so I think more cold than warm.

I'll take your advice and perhaps invest in some of those clippy on race things, at least I can whip them off if the sun is forecast to make a showing. I going supported so can chuck them in the van for the dry days.
