The results will be inconclusive.

Not all pork pies need jelly.

Jelly can add to the eating experience if the pies are warm.

Jelly can detract from the eating experience if it's an insipid space filler used to fill the voids created by the shrinkage of a high fat content, poor quality filling.

I doubt that there's many folk out there with the breadth of experience to vote on anything other than a localised sample.

I am in no way qualified to comment on this, however, it will not stop me having an opinion. Jelly yes.

every Friday when i was an apprentice mechanic we use to get a free Pork Pie from Tommy Roberts (Kidderminster Butcher) and if our oil burners were on then 10 mins before tea time the pie had to sit on top to warm up so the jelly tasted better :bravo:

Pork pies are rank. Scotch Pie and Bovril is what you want.

I pick the jelly off and give it to Millie the dog. Actually I pick out pork bit and give that to Millie the dog too. I really only like the pastry that is on pork pies, most yummy

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I don't like the jelly. Mr dragon does so the problem is sorted. I pick it out and give it to him to eat.

I'm not a fan of the jelly either, and the best pork pies I've had don't have jelly in so i suspect Vernon the Piemeister is correct.

Greenhalghs the bakers do a good pork pie, but they're too peppery for my mother. There's also a good pork pie stall on Lancaster's street market (wed & sat), but his pork and black pudding pie could be better; I'd rather have the black pudding in little chunks within the meat, rather than a slice on top of the meat... Greenhalghs also do a cracking Butter Pie  but i still miss Birkett's

That sounds very good to me, pork pie without the pork. ^_^ Do you like the pastry at the sides as well as the top? Do you like a soggy bottom the slightly soggy pastry at the base of the pie?

A good pork pie with the right sort of jelly is delicious. I remember as a child queing on Tuesdays and Thursdays outside Chadwicks shop on Grove Street in Wilmslow (sadly long gone) for the most delicious pork pies I have ever tasted. The pastry was perfect (rare for a butcher) the meat was perfectly seasoned and of the highest quality and the jelly added to the whole experience. I may never taste another pork pie as good again. Such is life.
