Do Port and Starboard apply on the road?

I saw a cyclist last night wearing led wrist bands. One was red, the other green.

Why?

The only thing I could think of is that he was using the maritime scheme to signal port and starboard.

He had them arranged correctly, red on the left, green on the right.

It's named after the town Porto in Portugal where the English imported all the port from during the importunate war with the French. It's a port town, unsurprisingly, since airports had not been invented.
