Since moving recently I now only have to cycle 6 miles each way. If everything lines up I can do it 20 mins but so far it hasn't taken longer then 30. I don't have a car so the alternative is 20 - 30 min walk to the bus stop then a 20 - 30 min bus ride followed by a 10 min walk at the other end and the same coming back. And all at the times they choose to run buses. At least cycling I can travel when I like.

The downside is the roads. One pot hole is getting bigger by the day and there's a whole section now where I have to ride in the middle of the lane to avoid the horrible surface to my left. Luckily it's a fast section so I'm not really holding any one up. There's another section with so many manhole covers that you have to weave left and right to avoid them. I don't like cycling on these roads after dark but at least I'm saving a lot of time and money.

I have never sworn to myself sat in a traffic jam on the bike. The same can't be said about the car.

I didn't mind the commute into London during the summer holidays, but I can't do it now. It's not the cold or the weather, I just can't cope with the traffic, awful road surfaces, cars parked across cycle lanes, having to share bus lanes with London buses and taxis, not to mention all the other cyclists in the dark since my accident...I started to physically shake, felt sick when I was riding in London last Saturday afternoon, had to get the train back with the bike

Yes, the train costs a tenner or so, takes about the same as cycling (and without the faff of getting changed etc) but I only do it twice a week.

Due to dodgy knees, I'm not meant to be cycling too much right now anyhow, so I'm sticking to weekends / during the day locally

I really appreciate my cycle commute when I have to go by car once in a blue moon to collect big heavy items . I also really enjoy 10 minute walk into Wigan , train to Victoria , amble round the city , food beer and home again , every now and then

I prefer to commute by bike. That said, I took the truck the other day, my normal cross country try commute route. Rain lashing down, wind whipping, truck shrugging it all off manually, and I actually enjoyed the drive for a change.

I take a relaxed view to my commute. 9 times out of 10 I'll cycle but if I don't fancy it or I'm going out or whatever, I don't mind getting the train sometimes - changing for the northern line at London Bridge is almost always a complete nightmare but I'm not hugely stressed by waiting for a few trains to go by so I don't get wound up particularly. I wouldn't like to do it everyday but sometimes I'm sitting at my desk and just can't be ar*ed to get changed and head out on the bike, if it's the beginning of the month I might just let myself get the train home - at the end of the month I woman up and cycle

If its heavy rain I wont bother, if I'm feeling full of a virus as opposed to a cold I wont bother, if I've taxed my motorbike and its a nice day I wont bother, if I have to go someone else after work in the other direction I wont bother.
Other than that I ride....its quicker and free....unless I'm full of ale then its the train, if there is space and if it isnt delayed/cancelled....I lost my mojo for a while but have now found it again.

Here for rides.
This time of year it is the train, or a lift, in and out for me. A good book, and a decent overcoat for the change of trains, does it for me.

I'm not cycling right now, would have been home 25 minutes ago if I was. I've another 20 minutes on a tram and a 15 minute walk to go.

Two solid weeks of no bike for me now  and I can see it being at least another week before I manage to get it fixed. Missing riding and disliking the bus but I know it is going to be hard getting back into it now its cold and dark, and my fitness may have dropped. Did manage a 13 mile ride last Sunday though

The only thing that stops me commuting to work is ice. I don't care about rain and cold. I have clothes to deal with them. If work dictates that I have to take the van, I feel thoroughly grumpy. It's miserable driving in London traffic. On a bike it's fun.
