Do you find commute cycling addictive?

It must be because I try to do it 2 out of the 4 days of my work rota despite;

  • having a perfectly good car to use
  • sometimes getting caught in the rain
  • having to set off 30 minutes earlier to allow time to cool down once I arrive at work
  • geting grief from my other half because I set off 30 minutes earlier and lose family time with her and the kids
  • having to buy a second bike as a dedicated commute machine so the knobblies can go back on my MTB
The exercise must cause the release of some feel-good hormones or why else would we all be so keen to take the harder option for travelling to work?

I decided to go for a ride this afternoon. Couldn't decide where to go, so after a while ended up on my commute route.
Actually, it was nice seeing it in daylight.
Roll on the long days.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
It's Saturday and I didn't cycle as I have 2 children. I really missed it!

Does anyone else miss cycling on their day off?

Yes drives me up the wall i have spent my 1 day off this week doing jobs around the house / playing with mini CK and i feel pent up because i haven't the time to go and spin the wheels .....

It's not just the exercise making us feel good (if you'd seen the speed I go you'd agree  ). It's just more fun to whizz around at 10 or so mph with your face in the world on something that responds to your whole body than to it is to sit in a chair going at 30mph in a box that you control with your feet and hands and a glass between you and everything else.

The feel-good hormones are endorphins. Nature's pain killers, mental and physical, apparently.

Being one of those who suffers from long term depression, it's cycling most days or back to the medication.

Don't get me wrong I cycle because I want to not because I have to. At work they think I'm barking riding back and forward in all weathers, little do they know (or care) I would be barking if I didn't get my daily fix.

Well put. Thank-you.

yes, and i find myself coming up with excuses to not use the car now. it has been known for me to go on the bike and SWMBO and kids go in the car with the bike rack in the boot in case i don't want to ride home.

Agreed, or in my case I have the little one on the child seat on the back, and SWMBO takes the car and any heavy items - the good bit is he LOVES going on the bike so I get the excuse that its really for his benifit not mine..
