Join the CTC or British Cycling - 3rd party insurance comes with membership and they'll help with any legal matters if you have an accident.

I'm a student so joining the CTC was a very cheap way to get insurance for me.

CTC for years now for me - the mag's not bad either. That just reminds me, I must renew my membership. Bearing in mind, if you're a student, unwaged or work under a certain number of hours you get reduced price.

check if you're already covered by your home/contents insurance. personal liability should cover you on the bike, but check with your insurance company. mine used an analogy of hurting someone with an errant golf ball, and confirmed that if i hurt someone with my bike, it was basically the same thing as far as they were concerned.

yeah but if the golf ball smashed a window, or bike analogy you cave in the door of an Audi A3, what then?
