I clean mine about once a week, maybe less in the summer if the weather's fine, and take to opportunity to check things over, sort out rattles and squeaks, gears and brakes not working properly. About once year I check and grease headsets, bottom brackets and wheel bearings. I like to have everything working properly as a problem miles from home can be inconvenient to say the least.
