Sounds interesting... I should think you'd probably skin the tomatoes (by covering briefly in boiling water, then draining and peeling), then just... make jam, in the traditional way (ie 1lb sugar per 1lb (chopped) fruit, perhaps with a squeeze of lemon juice. I would have thought it would go well with a bit of ginger too. Do you remember if she left the seeds in?

I've made green tomato chutney of course, which is much the same thing but with added vinegar and spices. There is a big Shaker tradition of desserts based on ripe tomatoes too.
thats the strange thing she left the skins on and the tomatoes were chopped i always thought it was more like a sweet chutney with bits of the green tomatoes but it was a jam i remember watching her make it and helping her chop the toms i remember the sugar going in and a drop of water but i cant remember what else and when iv tried to make it its just not quite the same as she used to make.

above or below is the question though....
ahh now there is the million dollar question personally for me jam on bottom then clotted cream and if im lucky a bit of fruit on top

Home made Apple and Blackberry or Apple and Quince. Yum Yum! If you wanna get pissed while eating jam, Sloe Gin Jam is bloody delicious!

Complex relationship here.

Make lots of it but actually don't eat lots of it so I have jam dating back years... But here comes the plum season! ARRRRRGH!!!!

And yes black cherry is also my fave but I don't have a black cherry tree so that's one I don't make...
Same here - apart from I do have 2 cherry trees but the birds always beat me to the fruit. Never eaten one home grown cherry yet

When we were kids all the family would go blackberrying for an afternoon and bring back as may as we could carry, then Mum would make a large batch of blackberry and apple jam in a large tin bath, the smell was amazing and we would have jam for most of the year. :hungry:

I am not a fan of strawberry jam but a few years ago when we were in Wengen, the hotel owner's daughter would pick the alpine strawberries and make a lumpy jam for breakfast. I loved the stuff and now grow our own alpine strawberries, trouble is they are so tiny that we don't have enough to make any jam.

Jam sandwich - also known as Plan B. Treid a bit of experimental cooking, and it didn't go well? Plan B is always there!

Jam - Good

Lime marmalade - better.
