If you're basing how nice your area is based on a website that shows crime stats (with what appears to be a flawed dataset, no crime at all shown on two new-ish estates in the town I live in?), then IMO, it's you that's bringing down the area.

Not quite, but pretty much there. According to that map thing, Wadebridge is hardly crimey at all. Felixstowe seems a lot busier in the crime department than you'd think. It is a busy holiday seaside town though so I suppose there are going to be incidents here. The sun is shining here so it's going to be busy. There seems to be a lot of car crime here, I bet loads of that is people reporting their car shunted while it's parked. Parking is a definite issue in towns like this.

I checked out my mums place in Deptford, it wasn't so bad - 24.

Then I checked out a place I used to live in Finsbury Park. Clearly it hasn't improved at 102.04(!)

Apart from a few rented properties that I didn't stay in for very long, I've only lived in green (low crime) areas

Oh, this is on of those regional sites that only has local figures for one part of the UK. I think the SNP abolished crime up here.
