I definitely cycle slower in the dark. I think it's down to the visibility thing when your eyes are watering but night seems to give me a sensation of speed when it would be no more than pootling during the day. And, at this time of year, there's rather a lot of night.

But still riding! :okay:

Yes I'm still pedalling, though restricted at the moment due to health problems within the family.

Taking everything else out of the equation, if you were to ride the same bike, with the same fitness level, and the same wind conditions, a reduction in road and tyre temperature will make you slower straight away.

Add in the other variables and there’s no surprise really.

In today's winds to and from work I was happy to be moving never mind what my average speed was . Definitely think what others have said about a cautious approach in the winter weather. I slow my rides down to lower the chance of an off

I suspect it's a bit deeper than that. I remember watching a training video when I was offshore where Duncan Goodhew was wired up and told to swim a set distance then repeat in cold water where he could only manage a fraction of the distance. I'm probably very wrong but I'm sure that's what happened to me just before Christmas as I was bounding along nicely thankyou very much then nothing, sore empty legs and I've still never gotten over it. I'm convinced very cold muscles don't work as well.
