Do you wear the same BASE layer in every season?

Between Nov & Feb I bought 5 base layers that were all the same-very thin and breathable type for under the cycling tights.

Although a thin jumper on top of the base layer is not required in spring/summer, do you wear a different base layer or the same type all year round?

Same compression base layer all year round, sometimes I add a thinner long sleeve on top

Base layer under cycling tights?

I don't wear a base layer if it's warm, I'll put something over the top of a jersey or use arm warmers, can then take off

If cold, I'll probably wear two long sleeve layers as my arms get cold

I use the Paramo Cambio, virtually exclusively due to their adaptability

Two of these, a fleece and a waterproof were adequate above the Artcic Circle last month, yet on a spring morning I can wear two with comfort.

Even in Summer a single is OK for most days

I don't wear merino if I'm likely to sweat. I find it itches like crazy. It's great in cold weather but polyester is more comfortable if it's warmer.

I wear mesh base layers all year round, but a long sleeved, merino blend one in winter and a sleeveless, synthetic one when it's warmer. Both are very light/delicate though. For me their function is to wick, which mesh, in particular, does very well indeed.

The reason I ask is that I am thinking of trying a simple T shirt as a base layer under the tights when the weather gets a bit warmer. (The base layers I`ve been using since November have long sleeves and kept my arms warm). My rides are under 1hr duration most of the time, so I guess wicking ability of proper base layers is not too important in my situation, but I`ve not tested this theory.

I have enough T shires to have a few changes each day if required, but only a few proper base layers.

I only wear base layers in winter or cold spring/autumn. I wear less or slow down rather than sweat if possible.

T shirts and tights are usually worn on opposite halves. ;)

The weather we have now gore base layer, specialized jersey and gore jacket and thermal tights. Mainly do road riding.

In summer carry very lightweight windproof jacket but wear short sleeve jersey and bib shorts. Mainly mountain biking.

The main thing is to experiment and wear what suits you, i don't get on with merino base layers. A few thinner layers allow better temperature control than a couple of thick layers as you can just remove a layer. I don't feel the cold much but do overheat.

I wear long sleeved base layer under thermal jersey in the colder months but when the warmer weather arrives the base layer will stay at home, short sleeve jerseys and arm warmers if required will suffice, I do however need to wear tights or shorts and leg warmers due to dodgy knees, if the cold gets to my knees I suffer with pain for days.

Don't wear cotton. It never dries out when you sweat. Get something synthetic for wicking. I just use a jersey in summer but I'm not very sweaty unless daft enough to use a backpack
