Do you wear the same BASE layer in every season?

Altura merino L/S in cold weather and if it happens to be a windy day, often a Northwave Windproof over that. For the rest of the year,it varies between CraftS/S Windstopper and a variety of bases of which,I must say my 2 Planet X compression bases are very comfortable.

Don't wear cotton. It never dries out when you sweat.
Don't be daft. It dries out, but not as quickly as synthetics. I ride in cotton most of the year. It's much less irritating than elastane/spandex/Lycra.

What's a base layer? My setup goes: S/S top> S/S top with armwarmers>S/S top with NightVision Pro Jacket>L/S top with NV Pro jacket.

When worn as a base under Lycra? My cotton bras certainly don't dry out until removed. YMMV
Well, no, I don't think I've worn cotton under Lycra and I wouldn't be surprised if it causes problems similar to what many people report about cotton underwear under shorts (damp and then chafing)... but cotton will dry out eventually if it's in the air.

Bamboo is pretty lovely for those of us who don't really get on well with merino long-term.

I've never tried merino, but I like the bamboo, I've got some bamboo sports trunks which I wear under unpadded tights and shorts, they're very comfortable.

It reads like the OP wears Lycra, hence my point was valid as the cotton won't be in the air

A sweaty Lycra top dries out much quicker than a cotton one I find, indeed, the Lycra one doesn't really get wet unlike a cotton t shirt can

I use them all the time in colder weather with an over T shirt , i find they help keep you cool in summer as the sweat works as the cooling agent..
or i just wear my Endura shirt as it looks better...:becool:

Merino base layers for me, usually right through to summer. I have different weights which I mix and match depending on the conditions.

Ah, but you posted elsewhere recently that you don't ride hard enough to get really sweaty! :okay:

If I wore a cotton t-shirt on any but my laziest/easiest rides it would end up soaking wet. I have been on rides where I drank 2.5 litres but came back 3 kgs lighter, so I had lost about 5 litres of sweat!!!

If I stopped for long wearing a sodden t-shirt on a winter ride I would probably end up hypothermic once the sweat had cooled down.

I don't find Lycra (or most other artificial fibres) the slightest bit irritating to my skin.

As for base layers ... I have a heavy-duty long-sleeved compression top which I wear on very cold rides. I have a lightweight long-sleeved one which I wear in cool to mild conditions. I have short-sleeved base layers for warm days. On hot days I would do without the base layer altogether.

Not exactly but near enough - I still get rained on, though. And as I also posted elsewhere, I think most Lycra fabrics are pretty sweat-inducing and I don't think the solution is to keep doing more of the same thing and expect a different result.
