I like Capaldi.

I think Benedict Cumberband would be good, but possibly too obvious a choice.

I like Capaldi and think he's perfect for the Doctor. I just don't like the scripts. They're still too juvenile hence the guitar and sonic sunglasses.

I'd like to see someone like Anthony Hopkins or Ian McKellen take on the role.

Agreed with Capaldi being a good Dr (I liked Matt Smith's Dr too), and agreed the scripts could be a lot better... but it is a kids show and should be juvenile. The sonic sunglasses aren't the problem, it's bringing back the daleks and cybermen every sodding series and getting far too sentimental and trying to tackle 'issues' and spending far too f*cking long saying goodbye to each other!

I reckon Andy Peters should play the next Dr.

This. Exactly this. Also, the sooner they get rid of Clara the better.

.....for me the Doctor will always be Jon Pertwee - the perfect dandy, so I agree Julian Clary would do a decent enough job, maybe this sort of look........

Dr Who may have started as a kids show but it became a family show. Anything that's on after 7pm in the evening, especially Friday or Saturday, should be aimed at the whole family as much as possible and Who is now on after 8pm. I find the writing too childish for 8pm and I don't like how sentimental it's become. I find myself cringing far more watching modern Who than I do watching classic Who on Horror!

Jekyll & Hyde shows that you can write a good family show without being childish.

Agreed. Clara has been around for far too long now.

The over indulgence in sentiment is what's ruining it these days (from Tennant onwards)... and that's an aspect aimed squarely at the family, not the kids. I anticipate at least 20 minutes saying goodbye to Clara when she makes her exit this series, and I'll be ready with the stop button (if i even bother... I've so far managed to put up with 2 episodes this series).

Oh I LOVE Peter Capaldi. (I mean this might just be because I love Peter Capaldi ).

And can I say that Michelle Gomez is just the best thing on TV ever (she was the best thing in Green Wing too). I would love a spin off series with Missy.

I like the doctor as a slightly unhinged codger. So I guess the natural choice for me as a successor would be Ken Stott. Mind you, if I wrote Doctor Who, it would probably be a lot like an episode of Messiah... so probably best I don't!
