I have come off my bike too many times riding on wet surfaces on bends in the road due to my tyres slipping

That is very very unusual. Are you riding over wet metal grids?

I dont know they can sometimes or at least its one of those things thats very hard to disprove once youve kind of lost confidence in a tyre make, as its just feel isnt it, part of me thinks there are more factors too it, like I had Vitorria tyres for a while and often felt they were squirrely as hell in the wet, though I know people rate them quite well for wet weather handling. whilst my current Bontrager ones seem ok in the wet when its raining, but dont seem to handle damp winter weather.

but then I kind of analyse in more detail and generally when Im feeling the bike feels loose, its kind of this time of year, not necessarily icy, but still <10C, and the roads have a nasty film of dirt, mud, combined with the salt treatment and generally a degree of moisture whether its raining or not, plus diesel, which doesnt really go away till the temp starts to rise, and so really has it got anything to do with my tyres at all ?

the roads have felt very slippy, and I dont mean when its been icy, this winter to me.

Analyzing my 'wet slippage'; the surfaces I have issues with are freshly tarmacked.

Gatorskins. Having slipped a couple of times I am leery now, probably more than needed. Nevertheless, since I now corner if it is wet in an upright position, I never slide now.
Gatorskins are the best - other than rainy conditions , etc. I have not had a puncture in thousands of miles on any of my bikes. As is said by wise men, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. :hugs:
The one down side of Gatorskins is that they are a bugger to remove, but as said up paragraph, no punctures no need to remove. ^_^

Gatorskins are awful tyres - they have the feel of riding on a hosepipe.
Honestly, there are far, far better tyres out there that have good puncture protection, and are actually safe to ride on.

100 flood warnings in place today across the country, 20 of them here in Dorset and it's still raining.......

I have never ridden on a hosepipe so cannot verify your claim.

I am planning to start my LEL tourist ride the last day of April, are there any guarantees from the experts that it will NOT be raining? :rain:
I can always delay the tour until the sun comes out to play.:sun:

how many dry days in {my town} so far this year
"As of the latest data, there are approximately 39.26 rainy days in Braintree annually, which translates to about 158.5 rainfall days throughout the year."

So that's clear then.

I fractured my hip back in 2016 due to riding on Gatorskins. Came off on a roundabout and was only going at a reasonable speed. Had checked tyre pressures before setting out and wasn’t excessively cold or anything. Needed a hip replacement as hip not repairable. May not puncture…..but horrible hard rubber which just slipped from under me. Be warned!

When I Gatorskin on the back wheel of my winter bike I couldn’t get out of saddle on wet roads with out it skidding about. I know I’m a bit of power monster 🤣but it was ridiculous and the bloody thing refused to wear out.

We're due to get our first rainless day of 2026 on Saturday.
However, Friday evening will be wet and then there will be an overnight frost, so untreated roads and those with water will be too dangerous.
Give with one hand, take away with the other!
