Most normal people would not sell a bike after just 1.2 miles, sounds like it could well be a C2w bike, and he's trying to make a bit of money. I doubt if he will make much though as retail the bike is a penny under £1200. On the C2W scheme it may of cost him £600 and now he is auctioning it on ebay? Me thinks it has come from the back of a lorry or warehouse somewhere.

I'd already emailed him asking.

He's just replied to say that the bike was bought on gift vouchers received from his firm as a 20yr long service award :-

"Actually the bike was purchased with gift vouchers by my company in recognition of my 20 yrs service.
If i had taken the cash then it would have been subject to tax."

Maybe not a C2W fiddle, but still a tax dodge.

I got a reply from the seller, he states that he used vouchers that he received from his employer for 20 years service, reasoning being if he had took cash instead of vouchers he would have been taxed. I always thought any benefit in kind were taxable but I am no tax expert.

I don't see a Boardman Carbon Team bike on the receipt just coupons £999. Whose to say the receipt or bike are related?
Why not go into Halfords and give them the barcode on the receipt which will pull up the transaction? If they are suspicious just say you believe something fishy is going on with one of their Boardman bikes on Ebay. Do Halfords record the frame numbers of bikes they sell, well the top of the range Boardman ones, not the cheaper bikes?

Definitely warrants some investigation.

So what is the employer going to say when they notice their employee is not riding to work on the Boardman bike????

Could very well be a scam.

Edit: Just seen the above posts. Hmmmm......... still seems very dodgy. The guy must not have ever ridden a bike, but how did he end up choosing a Boardman Team Carbon bike? The Revenue might be interested .........

Actually the long service award sounds plausible. Exempt from tax if less than £50 per year served and has to be 20 years or more. From memory.

Send him a message saying unless he sells it to you at a discount, you will contact the Revenue to notify them that his long service award has been swapped for cash which is no longer free of tax.

Ooh I really should work for HM Revenue and Customs. ;)

Can't be a keen cyclist as he's got the chain on the smallest rear cog and the smaller front one.

Unusual combo in my opinion. I know Max in Halfords, but he's not in today so can't verify if legit.
