So, out for a ride today with the GF when I got my first ever P******e.
I was actually quite pleased in a strange way as I could at last show off my skills after evenings practicing!
So in a reasonably quick time the tube was out, the offending object had been removed from the tyre, and the new tube was being positioned, I realised though that I couldn't get any air in to help with the seating of the tube but thought it would be okay once it was in and I got th CO2 canister on it.
Anyway, tyre back on and wheel back on bike, time to inflate with the CO2 canister and whoosh...not a bit of air in the tyre and a bit more CO2 in the atmosphere..sorry!
So I tried with the Mini pump and still couldn't get any air in and realised the valve must be faulty (and Yes I had undone the top bit of the valve!) as there was no way of getting air in, a friendly fellow cyclist who must have seen I was struggling and stopped to help couldn't figure it out either.
Fortunatley we both carry two spare tubes on rides and the second one I tried was okay so we could continue, but if I had only carried one spare I would have been left in the position of having to patch the tube at the roadside.
I guess the lesson is to try the valves out before you need to use them in anger, (Although that makes it difficult to fold them back up for the saddle bag)
Also the whole incident was caused by a sharp stone putting a small tear (1mm) in the tyre...I can no longer see this tear, but would you change the tyre now it has a cut in it or ride on with this tyre?
Sorry for the long story!
