Does anyone bother remembering phone numbers now?

I know my home phone number, mother-in-law's (but not my mum's), wife's mobile, and my works number - but that's about it.

All the rest of the numbers I need are in my mobile, which pretty much goes everywhere with me - well, apart from swimming, and in the shower, and ... well, you get the idea.

Does everyone else use their mobile as a phonebook as well, or do some of you have a really good memory (or no mobile phone!)?

Cheers,
Shaun

The only numbers I remember are my home number and my primary mobile number. I can probably remember my Dad's mobile ut that is about it. I don't even know my PAYG mobile number that I keep for emergencies.

I can remember my old phone number from when I was living in London and my Parent's work number from when I was a kid.

I have not learned any mobile numbers apart from my own because the cognitive load of memorising eleven digits is much higher than having to memorise six plus the odd STD code.

I know about twenty land line numbers.

i can never remember my wife's mobile number - filling in kids school trips form 'in case of emergency' section...I end up asking the kids for the number.
then i have to ask them 'what form are you in now?', 'what year are you in now?'.
I'll start to worry when i can't remember the kids names.

My kids' birthdays are my downfall I know the days and I know the months. I just can't combine them correctly.

I know home, work, parents and mother-in-law. All others, (including my mobile ) are in my phone

I work with computers so have a ton of my own passwords to remember, as well as customers' stuff. I keep a record, of course, but I still astonish myself by remembering the login to a router I haven't see in three years.

Despite this I can recall only ten phone numbers and have, on occasion, forgotten my PIN. Whoops.

On a similar vein - who finds it easier to remember the keystrokes rather than the actual characters?

Gaaawd aye... yesterday at the cashpoint, stood like a fool shaking my head as I could neither remember the number or the pattern - had it confused with my phone PIN/pattern.
Thread has reminded me to write some important phone numbers down and stick 'em in my wallet!

While you're at it, put your bank and credit card company's "stolen cards" phone number in your phone, too. It'll mean your cards never get stolen, as you're prepared ;-)

i'm the same with passwords, having worked as a sysadmin i've found this amazing capacity for remembering passwords i ahven't used in litterally YEARS.
phone numbers well i can remember a limited amount, for instance my mother in laws number purely because i spent so long back in the 90's ringing that number to speak to my wife (before she was my wife and lived with her mum) also my parents number and my own number, thats about it lol.
i also suprise myself with the amount of commands i can remember, for instance logging onto an old switch and realising my fingers are typing before i can remember the actual words to start looking up and altering vlans.

i get the same on the guitar, pure muscle memory for songs where previously i've had to have the sheet in front of me to guide.

I don't remember many phone numbers, but I can still remember the frame number of the bike I had stolen from the school bike sheds 42 years ago - 4867715 - how useless is that! I can also remember my national insurance number (I'm not telling you that!), Pi to lots of places (3.14159265358979) and so on, so it isn't that I can't remember phone numbers, it's more that I don't need to.

I'm hearing you on this.. I can remember about half a dozen numbers and, bizarrely, my old bank account number which is now closed (yet I haven't got a clue what my new account number is!)
I guess we still remember numbers from the days when witchcraft and trickery didn't do it for us.
