Having a blog that my family migh tread to find out how things are going in the rich p world would open me up to ridicule I would justly deserve. Self-important, self-indulgent egotism in my opinion.
Send an email with some pics every now and again if you want, at least that way it can be personal to the receiver. I find group letters/blogs impersonal verging on the rude.
I already took the trouble to explain why private family blogs are not the same as impersonal letters, especially to those of us in rather different family situations from your own. Sending large files by e-mail is also not good netiquette as it can cause mailboxes to fill up rapidly etc. Blogs do not arrive uninvited. You have to chose to look at them. They are the opposite of an unwanted letter or e-mail.
In general, I find it really hard to see why people get 'annoyed' by things that they don't have to look at or engage with. I wonder whether this is sometimes more a defensive overreaction to simple confusion at the modern world and new methods of communication, or in a few cases, just another tut-tutting petty judgmentalism, rather than a considered critique. I've found myself in these places a couple of times (with social networking and Twitter, for example), and then forced myself to step back and think more about why I was reacting this way. It turned out in both cases that the reaction was more about my own ignorance than anything else.
