I am more concerned when the term 'Cyclist' is used in unsavoury news reporting.

'A Cyclist stole a womans handbag' rather than
'A man stole a womans handbag and escaped on a bike'

"Lycra Clad" seems to come up more often than not as part of the abuse.

As the term Bike is used by both the pedal and motorised forms of two wheel transport we need something to stop one being confused with the other.

How about "Operative powered two wheeled transport mode"

Push bike sounds like the old "Hobby Horse" to me, too.
I sometimes use the term "velocipede", or, when discussing recumbents, will refer to upright bikes by their historical term, "safety bike".
