Does anyone in CC land work for an MOT garage?

A few weeks back local dibble were at our village school writing tickets. Good for them.

One fat bloke who drives there twice daily (and the catchment is our small village only) gave it the old "why aren't they put catching burglars?" spiel, and before I could stop myself I retorted "shame you'd never pass the fitness test or you could join them." If looks could kill...

I also thinks should have laws likw Japan, where if you can't prove you have off road parking at home then you're not allowed to buy a car except for the tiniest Kei cars.

If only there was an alternative to the car, like maybe an efficient vehicle with 2 wheels that the driver propelled themselves.

Sadly I can't easily get to Norwich and back with guitars, amps and dog grooming equipment.
Whe we move I can sell dog grooming stuff. Yay
It's a shame you don't live closer to Leicester, my ex service manager set up on his own as an independent SAAB specialist when the owner of the garage I worked at decided to retire and closed the place in 1982. Malcolm has retired now but his 2 sons run the place and they get nothing but praise from customers, Jason has never worked anywhere else and he's over 40 now, total expert and drive a (tuned) 95 Aero himself.
Google Malcolm Miles Motor Engineer, they don't have a website but there are lots of comments on Saabscene etc.
EDIT- they do have a website now, hadn't googled it myself for a while.

Here's a scenario. Mother takes her child to school, 20min walk, 2nd child to nursery, 20min walk, then collects the car from home to drive to work, 10 minute walk.

Those two 20 minute walks are dependent on how fast a small child will walk so could double. So we have an hour or more before the mother can head to work in a nearby town.

The alternative is to put the children in the car and do those two short journeys before driving to work. And bear in mind that the mother has to walk as well, probably good for fitness but makes it a tiring start to the day. And we haven't even addressed uncooperative children.

What would you do.

Make the kids walk!
The "I wants" are getting what they demand these days.
I'm just under 100 yards from the gates of the local school. It's five times as far by car. But it's a trip done(or as close as possible to the gates) twice a day by a neighbour, in a car.

Not sure of the relevance, the adult would need to walk for ~ an hour before starting out for work, or less than 1/2 hour driving and then to work.

Funnily enough we had that situation when we moved house back in 1981, the wife walked despite owning a car. The kids grew up fit and of the correct weight. Too many short journeys done in cars.
