Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
I am a rural kid but could live somewhere a bit Londonised for a bit. It's a stepping stone South, so will only be there a year or so anyway.
Its a commuter town for sure but it's a rural one. Working in London myself i would not call it Londonised but compared to where you are now you would have the best of both worlds and being right on the edge of Broadwater and Ashdown Forest i think that would satisfy your rural desires.

Far from Londonised! It's a pleasant, rural town in deep, downland countryside.
It's a nice town but has some seriously steep, albeit short, hills all around.
As an aside, I had my hip replaced in the Horder Centre there.

As others say, it's on top of a hill, so lots of speedy rides out from home, followed by a slower return. Links to Conan Doyle (I think, or is it Agatha Christie?). In/On the edge of the Ashdown Forest which is lovely, although not a free for all for off road cycling, with bridleways your main option. Fairly well served for shops.
