We live the next street over from the old Dereham Road, one of the biggest arteries into Norwich, busses and trucks 24 hours a day.
We will arrange to go and view the place and have a good poke about the town and area around where the flat is before making any decisions whatsoever. It's never going to be as bad as living in Scabby Abbey or Bentilee!
Lass has sent pics of the flat interior, looks a good size and it's pet friendly, with a garden, which is a bonus.
I do not remember it being that bad though, great cafe down by the fort for a bit of grub and too watch the boats come in. Google the name of the ship as it goes by and you can find destination, cargo, depth and loads more. They are mahooosive things.
Some of the nicest people I ever lived amongst was in places others myself included would call untidy.
Felixstowe has good and bad areas that are pretty obvious, so just have a thorough look round. Best housing probably from the town centre northwards near the sea front - it gets increasingly rank towards the docks to the south. I like Felixstowe - it's far from upmarket but has a bit of everything and a busy town centre.
Wander down to Felixstowe Ferry, which is a place rather than a ferry per se (by the mouth of the Deben). There's a cafe and pub there, plus a foot ferry which can take bikes across to the best cycling in the county (and a good cafe at Bawdsey).
[Edit] Good cafe at the docks viewing area by Landguard fort and another foot ferry that takes you to Shotley and Harwich. Well, Shotley, anyway - no-one in their right mind would want to go to Harwich.

This flat is on Beach Station Road, which is not the nicest bit of town, but then I don't live in the nicest bit of Norwich. Living that close to the sea is a bit of a draw for us. I used to live on the Bush Estate, near Happisburgh, and loved it. It was not as nice then as it is now and we loved it.
In fact this area was virtually a no-go area 25 years or so ago, with the roughest pub in the county at the end of our road. Pub is now an Aldi, half the estate is bought and it's a lot better. However, people are still reticent to move here due to it's reputation from all those years ago. It's a bit scruffy around here but it's the people that make an area.
Hmmmm. Make sure you have a look round the area late in the evening. Years ago, the amusement park near by and the associated crappy eateries used to be where all the bored teenagers hung out. Don't know if that is still the case, though, and it was at the very bottom end of any social disturbance scale, so not a huge problem even then.

Depends if it's on the sea front side of Langar Road or the Dock side.
Sea front side: limited parking, can be busy due to the convenience store being handy for people on their way to work, usual problems with day tripper traffic at weekends. Big open space at the end where a hotel was knocked down years ago and never built on - now used for a Sunday market and Saturday car boot sale
Dock side: very near the beach BUT on one of the main commuter routes into the dock from town, right next to the rail line with 24hr freight trains running across the level crossing and very busy with day trippers on the weekend and lorries going to and from industrial estates further down Langar Road.
Both - a bit grotty, well away from the town centre (approx 1 mile), but very handy for the A14 to get the hell out of there!

Near A154, Langer Road the beach end of the road. I will ask the lass what the car parking situation is like. Looks like permit parking though
My day out. Unfortunately, the bag with my swimwear got swapped with the one my dressing gown was in but at least someone had replaced all the shingle on the beach with sand.
I am unfortunately old enough to remember queuing down the road at Derby Road station in Ipswich to catch the seaside weekend specials to Felixstowe. Hundreds of people - the station couldn't hold them all.

Probably the better side - as long as it's one of the blocks or converted houses and not above any of the shops.
Edited to add: I'd also plan on having at least a couple of day trips down here to have a look round the area first, don't just rely on descriptions given by strangers and jaded locals.

We thought that we would take a wander down there on Tuesday, maybe have a ride around the place and a good look about. Flat is in a converted house, not above a shop. Ground Floor with front and back garden, utility room and good sized hall.
Sorry only just seen this, Beach station road is OK but parking will be an issue especially at weekends and in the summer, plus point is that the beach is close.
Felixstowe is OK, fairly good selection of shops on the main shopping street (Hamilton Road) and good road links to the A14
Many people will knock the place however imho I think the place is a good area to live. I moved here in 1981 (I live in a small village just outside) and have been very happy since moving here
Good employment opportunities with the Felixstowe dock and the associated shipping and transport businesses and excellent cycling roads to a plentiful supply of village pubs (Bucklesham, Waldringfield, Newbourne, Levington).
