Loads of crashes as i raced BMX but when i was 14 i tried to bunny hop 3 skateboards on a mountain bike (non suss) and clipped the front wheel on the top board. End result was a about a foot squared section of back with missing skin and yellow puss and a broken collar bone. The missing skin hurt more than the collar bone to begin with but my parents put me to bed without hospital attention saying that i was being dramatic. I spent the night wide awake and soaked the sheets in sweat. In the morning i went to hospital where they picked the gravel out of my back and put my arm in a sling. Sleeping didn't get much better for the next month.

I've broken most bones associated with sports. Oddly enough always on my left side.

My scar acquired at age 3 is on my forehead: a helmet would have made no difference.
I've got a forehead scar acquired at age 3 too! I'm told it was due to a head on crash a car, don't remember as it was a loooong time ago. The car was my pedal car and the corner of a brick wall.

Earliest bike crash when I was 10ish and on my 'racer'. A big step up from the Raleigh Shopper. The street was a close with a parking area at the bottom where there was plenty of room to turn (avoiding the Bond Bug). There is a limit to how fast you can corner in such a space. I found this out when the rear wheel broke away and left me grazed and bruised on the floor.

I remember my first crash.. (not including the time I braked a bit hard on a Raleigh Strika and flew over the handlebars and landed on my face)

Cycling along on a wet cycle path, and needed to slow down to negotiate a bend, however, the Vittoria Rubino tyres fitted on the rims had other plans. I applied the brakes and discovered that the Rubinos were rubbish in the wet as it was apparent that I was sliding towards a big tree... Smash ! Twisted handlebars, broken glasses, bent front wheel

details of my first crash are lost in the mists of time.

Girls are to blame for my first major crash. Aged 18, cycling into school, I turned to pass some admiring glances on some Lower 6th formers walking along, not noticing a car had decided to pull across and park in front of me. I went splat onto the windscreen. Ended up with a bruised forehead. The car owner started moaning about a minor dent in his front bumper. I was more upset about my Carlton, which was written off, as there was a massive bend in the top tube, the lovely stainless steel forks were bent back, and my front wheel now looked like a pizza with a large slice taken out.

Yup, long hot summer of '76 - was a 5 year old nipper in the local public park and 'horsing' down a sandy / gravel path. Came off at speed and slid on my right thigh and arm - the road rash was impressive and painful. My folks thought it would be a good idea to cover up the road rash with dry cotton wool and a bandage.......new skin grew around the cotton wool and was a nightmare to remove.

Yes, the hill outside Great Chart in Kent, c.1975. Downhill flat out on a Chopper, major tankslapper, spits me off, breaks my leg and collarbone.

Once I recovered I decided freestyle downhilling was too dangerous so took up off roading on my Chopper instead.

My first crash was when I was about 12 years old. I was riding along Holmpton cliffs in East Yorkshire after a morning of mushroom picking with my brother. I must have said something wrong because the next I knew he he kicked out and I was flying. I literally bounced down the face of the cliff and luckily avoided my bike.

He carried on without looking back and I had to carry my bike a mile to the next set of steps. It was a surprise that neither the bike or myself sustained any damage. But I still havnt forgotten my first crash.

Go on, tilt your head!
The only one I can remember is riding over a bridge with my younger brother on the crossbar when I was about 11/12. On the downward side of the bridge we were trundling along and somehow his foot ended up in the wheel, instantly locking up and sending us both flying over the bars. I remember putting my hands out but ultimately landing on my head! My brother was wearing some chunky sand boots (luckily) and it took a while to get his foot out of the spokes!! I seem to recall a neighbour coming out with his plumbing toolkit and cutting my spokes to pieces lol...its the only crash I can remember having.

When I was about 11 (1981) I got a "racer" for my birthday. In reality looking back it was more of a tourer as although it had 5 gears and drop handlebars it also had dynamo lights and a pannier rack on the back and mudguards.

Anyway, I took part in a sponsored ride run by our youth club around a local American Airbase close to us. Friend of mine decided to show off his no hands trick to impress a girl crashed into me forcing my front brake on catapulting me over the handle bars face/shoulder first into the tarmac.

Broken collar bone, broken nose, two black eyes all the skin off my left shoulder and the left side of my face.

Other crashes include a broken arm coming off my BMX and a broken wrist also coming off my BMX.

I can remember them all very clearly.

22nd June this year, about six weeks after I bought my bike. An item of clothing got tangled in my wheel and i flipped over and fractured my elbow. not my finest hour.

second crash: two weeks ago exactly. took a corner too fast and skidded into the road, taking quite a lot of skin off the outside of my right leg.
