I normally shop at Aldi plus some home delivery from Asda.
I have decided to try Iceland (local one is called The Food Warehouse).
I get eg chilled ready meals, milk, frozen veg and chips.
Any thoughts ?

We have one in our local "Range" and I used to buy a few bits in there rather than going to another shop if I was already in there. Branded stuff (e.g. cereal, crisps, soft drinks) are on a par with corner shop prices i.e. quite a bit dearer than your average supermarket. Their own brand frozen stuff is of course their specialty and some of that can be good value if you like ready meals and burgers etc. But again most of the branded stuff is dearer. They have a very basic fresh food/chiller which is nothing to write home about.

They do have offers, mostly on cans of beer/cider which can be a bargain. But I wouldn't shop there on purpose.

I use them for chicken wings and their ridiculously crispy chips, but not really anything else. Being over 60 you can get a 10% discount on Tuesdays.

Yes, watch their pricing vs package sizes very carefully - what appears cheap may not be at the FW.

yes I fell for that once. I saw a pack of Mr Brains Faggots for 1.99 or something, which I thought to be a bargain. But when I got home, there were 4 tiny faggots in a very large box. It was 222g. I later saw the same brand in Morrisons which was a 656g pack for not much more

We (or indeed I) go in regular. They have fresh stuff you know - ours has two walls of fresh foods.. It's the nearest supermarket to home, so avoids traffic. Nearly always get the fresh foods, frozen veg etc. They do have some decent 'premium' ready meals if you look. Also Gregs sausage rolls if you are so inclined.

Theres a drink I like called Messer Schmitt, it's similar to Jägermeister. For some reason Iceland, and very occasionally a random off licence or pub, seems to be the only place in the UK I can buy it.

So thats what I would recommend.

Didn't realise they sold alcohol. Do they sell a range of spirits ?

The Food Warehouses inside a Range don't seem to, certainly the Iceland stores do so I presume standalone Food Warehouses do.

It can be a small selection - one near me has about 12-15 brands in a locked cabinet you have to ask for.
