I think I am careful and don't speed and have not for many years. I did when I was young but I think that is how it goes.
Since getting into cycling about 6 years ago I have changed. I think I more actively look out for bikes. I also don't risk there being a hidden bike behind a car. For example- if a transit van is indicating and turning left into a side road that I am coming out of, in the past I would have ensured he was turning and then pulled out. Now I think there may be a bike behind him and wait to be sure. I guess it comes from being on the bike behind something turning off and having some div pulling out in front of you.
