Does it count as a scalp if the scalpee is wearing trainers?

I got scalped by a tricycle at the Skyride.

More seriously, it was Zipperhead (anyone remember him from C+ days?), and I was towing the Burley D'Lite with my 1 y/o and my mates 3 y/o onboard.

You're sweet, but I know you're only trying to make me feel better.

Well yesterday I fought like mad to catch a guy in front me of me, about a mile, doing 23 mph to catch him,I did catch him but i was knackered !

I rode along side him and said to him 'Boy you took some catching' ! then he explained he was an ex club member and from then on we cycled home and it was great to have company thats like minded about cycling, made me realise how much I miss the club riding scene...

I nearly did the same thing, but as I got closer [rapidly] the guy not only was in trainers but was on a mountain bike thingy and was built like a water buffalo, what could I do but hang my head in shame , turn around and slink off to find fairer game

Hey! That sounds like me...

Well it would have a couple of months ago, I've lost nearly 2 stone since then. Mind you, I still wear trainers and ride a mountain bike thingy.

It always makes me chuckle when someone has clearly worked to catch me up and pass me with a 'mornin!'. I've only been riding again for 2 months after slobbing for 20 years so I fully expect to be a lot slower. There may come a time when I'm not though...

1) a scalp is only a scalp if they try to keep up & you drop them
2) I can get to to Saffron Walden, circa 18 miles away, on flat peddles without clips around the 1 hour marker... it's a real effort though & I can easily maintain that average with clipless peddles.

tf, I've not ridden that way on flat peddles but have clipless. The point was I'm reasonably quick on flat peddles & no toe clips.
