Birmingham has a recent bizarre sporting event known as the Birmingham City Vs Coventry City Football Derby.

Since Coventry failed to agree a rent for their own ground, they are now groundsharing with Birmingham. They met in the FA cup recently. The "Home" side was Coventry, so Birmingham got to experience the away changing room, and played in their own stadium with Coventry branding, and were invited into their own executive suite by Coventry. Their fans had to sit in the away end. It was an FA cup match and it ended in a draw, so it was replayed at exactly the same place, but just swapping changing rooms and seating sections.

To add to the bizarre nature of this sporting event, thousands of Coventry fans that didn't turn up for the first match in protest at Coventry playing in Birmingham, not Coventry, were more than happy to turn up at the same ground for the return Away match, and presumably took up a much greater seating allocation than when they were playing at home.

Now that is truly bizarre.

Leatherhead is another town with a rubber duck race. Hundreds of the things in the River Mole, plus a duck festival which doesn't get more exciting than a few larger ducks in shop windows.

We have the great eastern run,not bizarre but really annoying..they shut off whole housing estates on a sunday so some people can have a fookin walk!!
We have plenty of open spaces for just such an event..

Hunstanton has a soap box derby which I think is quite dangerous.

Downham Market used to have an afternoon of dragon boat racing in August but I can't confirm it still happens. Might have collapsed with council cuts withdrawing support.

King's Lynn is relatively sane, with a colour run and a Santa Dash being about the oddest I can think of. There's also water ski races but they're quite professional.

Good on them! I understand its name annoys the Great North Run, whose complaints forced our local "Great East Anglian Run" to change its name (it's now Grand, so still GEAR)... but they can't touch the GER because it's about as old as the GNR.
