My work is supposedly cycle-friendly, i.e. it has covered, secure cycle parking (Sheffield stands with shelters covered by CCTV), showers, changing facilities and lockers. However, it doesn't provide hair dryers or anyone private you can plug your own hair dryer in which either suggests the facilities were designed by men or they don't really think women (or men with long hair) would like to cycle in. I've ended up having to plug my hairdryer into a plug socket in the corridor outside the showers which is far from ideal. Others dry their hair in their offices and just hope that nobody in their office needs to use the phone!

I was just wondering if anyone else's work provides hair dryers?

Yes we have hair dryers in the men and womens changing facilities, there are also power cords which the women use to power their own hair dryers as the ones provided are a bit crap.

A lot of us work in companies that have just started up and do not have mega changing areas such as yours. Do not get me wrong I think it is wonderful that such things are layed on in your respective companies. But we are going through a credit crunch at the moment and things need to be taken in perspective. I cycle to work for a number of reasons firstly it good for the environment the next it is handier than the car the other is that it is good for me. I personally would not find it ethical to blow away the carbon saving I was making on a 1.5KW dryer just for me to sit at my desk with a slightly damp head. It does not offend people and I am sure it does not offend dress code. Furthermore with all the air con that are in offices it will be dried in no time at all. So hang in there and lets do our bit for the environment and forget the dryer.

None at work itself but we do have a subsidised Nuffield run gym (nothing out of this world, just weights, cv and studios) where there are hairdryers, not that I would ever have need of them.

there are hair driers in the gym changing rooms (yes the Royal Mail are not a bad company ) however I only use the showering facilities in the toilets next to our workshop and have no need for a hair drier .

We have hair dryers, but in my case no hair, we have TV, surround sound, fridge/freezer, sheltered and very secure (hopefully storage, training room, cooker, microwave and a lot of other luxury items. Mind you we both work from home so that may have something to do with it. Joking aside surely it is a working environment you are in and things like hair dryers are not really the employers responsibility.

No hair dryers - and, following what @Phill057 said, I'm not sure that I'd agree with installing them. Personally, I haven't needed one for my hair since I was about 17 (a paper towel is now more than sufficient to polish me up after a wet ride) but I'm also the only person in my house who owns one, neither Mrs Norm nor either of the Smalls have ever felt the need for one.

Knowing the levels of H&S BS to get a toaster, a stand-alone hair dryer is a pretty high risk item and would almost certainly be subjected to frequent and costly inspections. And, ultimately, for what purpose? Should the company also be providing fresh towels (cheaper and more arguments in their favour than a hair dryer?), or soap and shampoo?

We have a decent shower room at work, although I'm the only one who cycles so no-one else uses it. I have a decent micro-fibre towel, I'm pretty sure that I get more than I would expect my employers to provide already.
