Well it looks as if they'll be the pitter patter of tiny (well, not so tiny actually) footsteps in the Panter household next weekend after popping into the local dog rescuse center, you know, just for a nose around...

So, can anyone recommend a really good insurance company for dogs?
I know they're all cheap as chips when they're puppies, but that the level of cover generally declines as the dog ages or the price rapidly climbs.

So, as we've taken on a middle age dog with a high risk of health problems, can anyone recommend a good company that won't leave us in the lurch? (pardon the pun)

I know that decent cover won't come cheap, but I never want to be in the position of having to decide my dogs fate on financial reasons.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Tescos.... or don't bother and save a similar amount each month in a separate account to spend when you need to?

Iv always been with petplan and have no complaints. They have never quibbled about paying out and that encludes one bill of a few thousand pounds and one of lifelong medication.(neither for Millie thank god, but for older dogs iv had and lost over the years.)

Not sure about insuring an older dog tho, some policies are very restricted and wont cover ongoing illness although I might be wrong so am happy to be corrected.

Tescos are meant to be good as well.

You could try the Post Office, when they 1st launched it I rang for quotes for 2 x 12yr old Flatcoated Retrievers. The premiuims were high (as you'd expect) but they would cover everything except paying out a lump sum should they die.
Again understandable given the average life span of that size of dog. Both made it to 13 1/2 with Quasi reaching 14.

If they ask for a reference number (office code) please feel free to use 0063215, it might get a reduction as it does for Car/ Home insurance.
It would also earn 'brownie points' for my office if quoted.
