I assume many of you on here have dogs and have no hesitation in having your dog in your car.
Well, we are going to Devon soon, with my step daughter and her dog. My policy is that I refuse to have a dog in my car, ( smell, hair ) so I have resorted to hiring a car for a few days to keep every one happy. By the way, her dog is a Cocker Spaniel. Apparently, they don't shed hairs.

Yeah they do. I have one. And the stink, man! I tell you, by the time you reach Devon you'll be lucky if you can see out for all the accumulated fur, and what with your eyes streaming from the toxic fumes, well, it's not my idea of a perfect start to a holiday, let me tell you.

You also assume those who do have dogs also have a car. I have a dog but not a car.

No assumptions needed.

Gavroche has stated several times he has a car, several times he states his love for diesel.

But he's doing his bit, by hiring another car, instead of using the car he does have, for what would be a legitimate use for the car he does have. Making the ownership of the car he does have, a bit needless.

We have a dog, but he rarely gets in the car, because of the hair and smell.
I don't see the need to take dogs places by car. We walk him, we don't need to drive to a place to walk him. When we go on holiday he goes and stays with eldest son - who takes him on the bus or walks him there.
I really don't understand people who take their dogs into the town centre while they shop or wander about.
And don't get me started on people leaving dogs in cars.:cursing:
Anyway, just a fyi, dogs should be restrained in cars either with an attachment that attaches to their collar or by means of a dog guard across the boot, because in an accident they will become a projectile which would cause serious injury if it were to hit you in the back of the head.

If you have a wash every now and then he might be happy to join you.

Seriously Gavroche, me old chum. You can get pedigree boot liners which cover everything and have a fold down bit to cover the bumper so it's not scratched when they jump in/out. You can even had them custom made, cheaper than a hire car.

Ah yeah but, if he did that then the dog could go in the car again. It would be the start of a slippery slope. This way, it is definitely a one off.
Do the French eat dogs, they eat everything else, slathered in cream and white wine and wrapped in pastry?

Couldn't you send the hound by air from Manchester to Exeter while you drive in your car? Actually, does the owner have to fly with the dog for security reasons or can it be checked in by itself? It might make friends with the airport sniffer dogs.
