He's a dog, not a person. He's not much into holidays or shopping.
He likes to run round the garden, lick himself and sleep. Being in a crowded town centre wouldn't be any fun at all. Staying with eldest son is much more his thing.

Have you ever asked him? My hounds line up at the car to go on holiday and get most upset if left at home, some owners would even have you think their dogs prefers being locked outside on a short chain and walking in their own shoot, still every dog is different.

fwiw a dog is not a possession, you have chosen to make a commitment to the dog in the same way you make a commitment to having a child, its a living creature that needs food nursing etc etc.

I'm not locking him in a cage, he goes to stay with my son, who takes him for walks, buys him treats and lets him sleep on the bed.
We've been known to leave the children at home while we go away too, so he's being treated just the same if that makes you feel better.
