Books for kids was inspired never mind if you liked her music. She really was a good person.

My wife told me when I got home from work, & it was sad news
I'm a fan, but........ primarily of the her older recordings, & the later (90s onwards), when she went back to her roots (CDs like Little Sparrow & The Grass Is Blue)
I don't like the 'Rhinestone Era'
Her philanthropy was an absolute marvel, with the employment for locals at her themepark, the awarding of grants for students from her home county, who wanted to go to College/university, the more recent Book clubs, etc....

She made a lot of money out of Whitney Houston, as Dolly wrote I WIll Always Love You, as used in the film The Bodyguard
She also refused to be bullied/co-erced by Colonel Tom Parker, when Presley was interested in recording I WIll Always Love You - allegedly, 50% of all rights had to be signed over, for Presley to sing it (Jerry Reed, held out too, with Guitar Man)

There's also the splendid biographical Coat Of Many Colours, if I'm in the right (wrong?) mood, can make me cry
