Study has shown that hard exercise depletes magnesium levels , as most people do not have sufficient in their diet transdermal application helps if you fall into that catergory.

You can learn to live with it. I almost welcomed it at times. I've greatly increased my cycling recently and am training for distance rather than speed. I have been surprised how little pain / stiffness I'm getting. In the past, doing 30-50 mile rides regularly, pretty much as hard as I could, my memory is of having it all the time. I think I spent months at a time with a dull ache in a lot of my muscles particularly quads.
