It is amazing.
If we could capture all the suns energy that hits the earth for just 1 hour, it would supply the entire planets power for a whole year.
And that is just the teeny tiny bit that hits earth, imagine if we could capture the suns rays elsewhere and send it back to earth.

I would say that we do capture the vast majority of that power. Soaked up in to vegetation, heating the planet into the Goldilocks zone, providing pressure difference to drive the winds. Basically we are here because it's doing its job I reckon.

We can do it without the cable
Just put a number of big parabolic mirrors on the surface of the moon and point towards earth
You then turn water to steam and power turbines
A string of turbines around the world would be cheap electricity for all !

Ignoring diffusion and deflection in the atmosphere, what do you suppose would happen to earth if we turned the moon into what would be for all intents and purposes, a second sun?
