Hold chilli with fork, chop with knife...never seen why people feel the need to actually hold something so hot.

My wife was once pounding chillies in a pestle and mortar, the chilli juice shot straight in her eye. Was interesting try to convince her I should rinse it and not her with it on her hands.

Now she puts a towel over whilst squishing chillies

I made that mistake - once - many years ago in the deep dark jungles of Central America. I ended up sitting in a stream for an hour trying to cool my undercarriage!!!

A friend of mine was cooking a meal for guests, chopping chillis and onions. Eyes start to water so he rubbed them, argh! Washed eyes with lots of water but all the running water made him need a pee...................... You can guess the rest.

I assume his wife made him sleep alone for a few nights too.

Romantic meals have ended badly when I've cooked using chillis. We'll leave it at that shall we?

If milk and yoghurt are good for when your mouth is on fire with chillies then washing your hands with them might help.
Or other parts too perhaps.

Maybe my fingers have 'hardened' somewhat after years of messing about with food, but I'm generally OK - even after Scotch Bonnets. Very thorough scrubbing with lots of soap and water, then I touch my fingers to my tongue. If I can still taste the chilli, another go with more soap and water. Usually that works. But I would certainly beware of touching the eyes...
