It turns out that Sidney Marshall, a 90 year-old WWII RAF pilot with a Distinguished Flying Medal died alone this week and looks likely to be buried in a silent ceremony next week.

If you feel, as I do, that this isn't right, then could you think about attending? I'm going to go. I never knew him but feel that it would be wrong if he wasn't recognised for his achievements.

He is to be buried at Lytham Park Crematorium at 1.30 pm on Friday, July 4th.

His wife died 18 months ago and he had no children. His surviving brothers are too ill or infirm to attend.

The arrangements are through Roland Whitehead and Daughter, funeral directors of Blackpool.

Good for you, hope it is well attended.
A similar thing happened last year for a fellow RAF veteran.

You got a link to a page for that, I could share it on FB with my sister-in-law who is an instructor at Brize Norton and get it out there to as many RAF personnel as possible; she's out in the Falklands this weekend but still on FB.

Have you tried the British Legion and the local RAF

I know t hat when I was in the Navy, we had a similar situation.

British Legion provided standard bearers and the Navy provided bearers and a Chaplain

My cousin who is squadron leader in RAF has replied that the story is widely known on PPrune so they are expecting a big turnout for the old boy
