Unless my shoes are contaminated with something nasty, then why should I be made to take them off to step on your precious carpet?

I'll ask someone to check their shoes if some dirty bastard has let their dog crap outside and it's been walked in on the pavement. I don't want them taking their shoes off though. If they have crap on their shoes and they don't comply, they ain't coming in!

Carpets? Wot? Sooo last millennium!
Really, I wouldn't have thought anybody with bikes and/or pets would have carpets.
The sound proofing in my building is non existent, and would be even worse if I, like my downstairs neighbour, didn't have carpets and underlay to provide at least a little bit of sound dampening. She has bare floorboards with a few rugs. I can hear every footstep, and more............

I see: fwiw, in my experience as a ground floor dweller, the upstairs carpets do not make any difference, I can still hear everything

A million toffee-nosed B&B owning battleaxes can't be wrong:okay:
I think they are related to the same people who keep the plastic covers on the upholstery of their new cars ( and suffer sweaty bums ) in order to maintain the resale price.

Total ban on outdoor shoes in our house.

Yes we ask people to remove shoes once they are in the house and majority do no issue

And we always do the same anywhere we go , its 2nd nature

You are all welcome to trample mud over my linoleum planks, it'll no be any different than cat sick, a good mopping will fix it ^_^
Yup wooden floor. With the proper underlay to kill sound transmission.

Gets a brush once a day which takes all of 30 seconds. Hoovered on a Saturday morning when I do the proper house clean that seems to be a tick in the too difficult box for wifey.
