Anyway to answer/question the OP, why would you gently close a car door when you can sling it shut as you walk off, do a wee dance and then spin round like Bodie and Doyle and click the remote-control locking key?

Nah, cars definitely suck.

I believe a lot of them suck, then squeeze, blow and then bang.

I think the reason that you have to give a car door a bit of welly is because of the air pressure, closing a car door with the windows open needs a lot less effort than when closed (excluding convertibles with the roof down of course).

If they can make a soft close toilet seat then surely it can't be beyond the wit of man to make a soft close car door.

It is basically impossible to close the doors on a MK1 Golf or a Beetle without slamming them (unless the window is open a little).
