I see that a player has been booted out of the darts Worlds for failing a dope test. I'm guessing it may be for a recreational substance. Not his first offence apparently.

Absolute madness really as it's one of the lesser known players and he'd have been due a £25k payday for getting to the second round.

Any idea how drugs help you play darts! I can understand a pint to steady the nerves but drugs?

Think there were stories years back of golfers using beta blockers to help with nerves so suppose something similar might be used. I was slightly surprised to learn they actually get tested though.
Snooker player Bill Werbeniuk used to consume vast amounts of alcohol to control a tremor, and then used beta blockers to counteract the booze! :laugh:

Yes, beta blockers enhance performance in any target sports, by reducing tremor. Also possibly non-aerobic Red Bull-type events, by reducing heart rate and avoiding “nerves”.
They had been banned in top level lawn bowls, but I think this was relaxed because half the competitors needed TUEs.
