I know the feeling ! Just glad I took up motorcycles at 40 and not 16 ! Otherwise I might not be here now .
A bike is on the cards for me aswell I think need to wait a couple of years todo the direct access though. Think my attitude may change slightly on the back of a 600cc though. Just thinking of the mountain roads up by glenco gets me all hot and bothered. Was up thare a couple of weeks ago. My other half didn't understand why I kept turning the radio off and opening the window

It's hard not to slip in behind a bus as it gathers speed pulling away from the stop....
Scary when you can't see the road ahead either pot holes galore up here

It's not something I would go out looking to do, but if a slow moving vehicle happened to be in the right place and presented it self just in front of me, it would be hard to refuse.

In the time trial world, there used to be a few courses (E72) and probably there still is, that were notorious for their high volumes of traffic and the drafting effect of lorries gave some artificially fast times - sometimes 5 mins faster than you would do on a normal course. By drafting, I don't mean moving into the slipstream of a vehicle, just the effects of the vehicle overtaking.

Comes down to a simple question.......

You have no visibility of what is happening ahead, so cannot "read the road" and plan accordingly...... can you avoid potholes etc, and if the draftee stops, can you?

I've never chased a bus down a hill at 45mph and only afterwards considered the relative stopping distances of a 23c-tyred road bike and a bus. Never ever.

(not again, anyway. I decided the bus would win)

.... and listen to the sound of the engine. You can tell when a driver starts to ease up.
Really? There's a bit in the RTA about ''drafting vehicles''
No, There's nothing in the RTA about cycling around in a Nazi uniform throwing kettles and salmon at nuns, it's still illegal, you dribbling half wit.

As I am bored at work I was going to do a photoshop of this. I got as far as googling 'ducking nun' for the first image. The results didn't look like quite what I was after so I had to close the window quickly. Google didn't seem to think I meant 'ducking'.
Thanks for the insult, dribbling half wit is what I am most def.

And the above would be illegal but not in respect of the RTA, I'm guessing assault? Throwing a kettle at a nun?
Is it a fish kettle?

tailgating was made illegal last year but you'd need to check whether it says motor vehicle or vehicle, otherwise I guess it comes under furious cycling.
