Drive by feel

Sod using your eyes, brake and steer when you feel a bump.

I was driving along this road on Wednesday night in the dark when I saw a car being pulled out of the hedge here:

Driving out of the 30mph limit you get the national speed limit sign, and a bendy road warning sign. At night when you crest the small rise you get the reflective chevrions glaring back at you also warning you of the bend.

That car must have accelerated out of the village, and ignored the warning sign (if they saw it) and ignored the chevrons (if they saw them) and braked at the last minute and shot through the hedge.

Police only attend injury road traffic collisions, but surely there is a case for driving without due care and attention here?

Why do I care?

Because I sometimes ride along this road to see a mate, and could be cleaned up by a prat like that.

Yeah, strange that they miss the gate hole, and take a lump of hedge out instead?

I have lived in this area about 23 years, and those 'S' bends have always been clearly signed, yet drivers still don't slow down.

Half the time i think drivers are to busy having a fag, yakking on the phone or half asleep .Seems that the general wya to drive is only one eye on the road and one hand in control of the vehicle with about 2 % of the brain thinking about it as they drive every day they tend to go into auto pilot .
At a similar corner i have seen numerous cars in this hedge...

We have a very similar feature here, known locally as Knitter's Bend. About half a dozen cars a year go of in one direction or the other. Could just about understand a high powered rear wheel drive car catching its owner out there but nearly all are modern euroboxes.

Modern front wheel drive cars will have a tendancy to understeer when powered into a bend resulting in going wide. That could be one possible cause of the OP's incident, aside from the poor driving ability.
