I've just bought a replacement chain and a 5-spocket screw-on freewheel.
From the packaging, I see that the 3/32" x 1/2" chain is made in India by Freeway Cycle Components and that the freewheel is made in India by Sadem.
During my work as an inspection engineer, I've had some bad experiences with products of Indian manufacture.
In fairness, I haven't paid top-dollar for these items.
Do any Forum members have experiences of these manufacturers / products ?
I'm no racing cyclist, but I don't want to fit critical items that are going to let me down in general use.
I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

These Chinese and Indian products are the only new components I can buy down here locally unless I go to Decathlon where you are assured of decent quality but mostly still made in the East. I have had problems with chains breaking but as with most things you get what you pay for.
The cheap Chinese/Indian chains won't work well on modern cassettes and will slip but you might be okay with a freewheel. I bought a cheap £2 Indian chain for my vintage six speed Alan and it's been fine.

Thanks guys .... I'm grateful for your experience and your comments.
I'm planning to use both the chain and the 5-gear freewheel on my old Carlton.
The change is not indexed, which I'm completely comfortable with.
I've had a good look at the components and they look and feel OK to me.
My gut reaction is that they will be OK.
Decision-time - - - I'm going to go ahead and fit them.
