Yes, it was before a large portion of our workforce were illegally forced to retire early, in an attempt to drastically cut our numbers.

I pay 15 percent of my wages towards my pension - how much is yours?

Do you pay towards your pension or are you paying for the people who have retired.

3 minutes before I wrote that this afternoon I was speaking to my nearest neighbour a retired policeman, he at 93 was telling me how ridiculous it was the amount of pension he was getting for what he paid in.

When I read that 1 in 7 £ paid to the police goes in propping up pensions, what am I supposed to think.

Yes I am about the same as you in contributions but mine will not return the same, unfortunately.

You pay about 15 percent - that's very unfortunate as I don't know of many schemes that all for that (think firefighters are high). If you pay that much and don't get the same, perhaps consider a better financial advisor.

Mind you, I'm guessing that you don't have to check sometime isn't following you home in the hope of kidnapping you and beheading you, or wash the spit out of your face, or take HIV tests after being bitten, or sit there and say nothing while someone graphically explains how they will r*** your children, all of which I have done. Here's an absolute fact - if I didn't have that vain hope of a decent pension at the end of life, would I do this job for the money we are paid? Not a chance.

No you are correct I do have to put up with that, nor do any of my police friends. Neither do I get sick pay, holiday pay, enhanced pensions etc. Sorry but if you are only doing that job for the pension and no other reason that is very sad.

I am not in anyway saying you should not get something that is promised to you, far from it. For sure we need to adjust civil service pensions for the future to bring them inline with what we can afford though. After all to get what you hopefully you will would have to have a £1,000,000 pot which is about £20,000 a year in contributions.

200 people a year used to die on building sites, how good are the pensions there.

Is this particular bee in your bonnet really relevant to the thread?

You're getting borderline anti-police there and pushing this thread wildly off topic. I'm sure many will discuss this ideology of yours in a specific thread if you start one.
