what i got from it was if we all look out for each other and drive/ride with a little more respect for others life would be great, if all act like d##ks then cyclist will die. car drivers will be ok

Not at all balanced IMO.

The cyclist rode like a cock, adding to the mythos that the car driver was a victim.

The left turn was a 50/50 IMO, the car driver should look, but the cyclist should not undertake.

Of course they didn't show the classic left hook though, did they?

Cyclist riding along, car overtakes and swoops left.

What idiot would ride so close to a parked car, then decide to pass it without looking?

Again, what Idiot would ride so close to the dooring zone? And if they had to, surely their mind must be thinking, is that driver getting out, have they seen me?

Too biased towards cars for my liking.

Also a lot of emphasis on irresponsible cycling, and only one report on a death of a cyclist?

???????

I felt that on the whole it was good. The 3 stunts made me wince even though I knew they were stunts. The left hook one was the weakest - in that I don't think that it showed how they more normally occur, when a car overtakes a cyclist and then turns rather than a car slowing down lots and the cyclist going very fast. However I think that made the program seem a bit more balanced, and we don't want it to come across as the cyclist is always in the right, more that could we have more consideration about our safety.

Interesting to see Quentin Tiff (Edit- well I vaguely remember them from top gear) on a bike - he had good road positioning for someone new to cycling.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Saw the last 15 minutes or so. Pretty infuriating, from the misleading title all the way down to the Nosferatu taxi moron. About the expected level for ITV journalism, though.

Quite. The presenter behaved as if the culpability in an entirely clear-cut incident were to be decided by straw poll.

I was ranting at the TV when that Manc taxi driver made the comment about insurance. Mine costs me £36.00 per year (IIRC), about a 1/4 what I pay for a car.

I am convinced I will do less damage to anyone, than they will do to me, yet I pay the equivelant of 25% (based on my car premium) into a pot I might never claim from, or perish the thought, be alive to benefit from it IF something happened.

And to add insult to injury, they have some ill-informed pillock tell millions of people that cyclists don't have insurance!!!!

I was pointing it out to my TV but I don't think they heard me.

The people who thought it was too biased towards the car, do you not think that it wouldn't have made it onto the TV in the evening if it had been biased towards the car? If it had been very pro-bikes I think it would have had all the drivers turning the TV over to another channel, whereas maybe some of them will think about some of the points raise.

It would have been nice to have seen an uncut version of the discussions after each set piece.

May I offer my condolences [having just watched the behaviour of the taxi driver] to all cyclists in cities and especially London if that is typical of what you have to contend with. What an arse! anim_08.gif

Why oh why can't we adopt the same order of priorities as most other European countries and simply give way to the most vunerable. The best part of the programme was seeing a car addict enjoy riding a bike.

I think it was sort of all right in some ways. If petrolhead Quentin Wilson tries it and thought he'd do a bit more of it that might do a bit of good, then again Top Gear gave the bike a reasonable airing in the hilarious race across london.

The trouble with this country (the majority of people that is) is that we are too 'american' and 'me me me' orientated to be able to adopt the Dutch style of riding. Everyone wants to get there NOW, whether on 2 wheels or 4.

Once we (as a nation) relax a bit, we might mellow like the Dutch, and benefit from such infrastructure.

To prove my point, just put a RLJ'ing 'got to get ahead' cyclist on dutch style cycle paths and what will happen?

Carnage.
