There are good drivers and drivers who are less good. I dislike current BMWs as cars, but know many people who own them and adore them. All are fair-to-good drivers and one or two of them are keen cyclists.
To redress the balance on which cars are the worst driven, I compiled a list as a teenager of which cars picked me up the most when I was hitching. As I tended to be in France, the range of marques is skewed:
1. Renault 4
2. Renault 6
3. Citroen A-Series (2cv, Dyane, Ami etc)
4. Peugeot 204/304
5. Citroen GS
6. Simca 1100
But... my 2 best rides were in a 6.9 litre Merc 450 SEL and a simply sumptuous (and fast) BMW 3.3LiA
There are nice people in flash motors. There are also complete gits in ever-so-'umble econoboxes.
I don't like the idea of a BMW driver being poorly thought of by association any more than I like the idea of a carbon-riding lycra missile in team kit being thought a bit of a twat. Both assumptions are frequently false.
I do not now drive and have never driven a BMW.
