How about this obnoxious selfish woman whose BMW is her pride and joy?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...et-20mph-limit-saying-damage-cars-engine.html

She needs to get a life.

It would be interesting to show that article to a Dutch person (or anyone from a more civilised country than the UK) and see their reaction. I sometimes wonder if I'm part of the same species as some of the moton imbeciles in this wretched country.

What gets me is drivers using their horns after they have over-taken you, without any reason as happened this morning on a country road with a few cars about but no real danger. I just tend to wave at them, perhaps they see it in the rear view mirror (if they look .... unlikely).

The chances are that these are cyclists giving you an encouraging bip? Good reaction from you, much better than a two finger salute.

i find it is every thing from lorry's to motorbikes  why a motorbike would pull along side and start shouting about getting off the f*** road on a long strait country road with no other traffic in sight is beyond me!
it is very rare that i go out on a ride and dont get a horn blast, on average i would say five per ride.
the handbike is even worse, sounding the horn has become just background noise to me now, it is all the spiting that gets me angry, several times a week; i think because of the crutches on the back of the bike they feel safe.
but cyclist are very seldom seen out and about where i live, the way drivers try to bully bikes around here no wonder.

I got beeped last week on a wide urban road with nothing coming the other way. The car was behind me when he beeped just before he passed. There was absolutley no reason for him to beep. At a set of traffic lights a quarter of a mile or so up the road, i stopped and asked why the beep.

He told me it was just to let me know there was a car behind me. There was no aggression or anything malicious about him at all, but i still told him thanks for the concern but best not to sound the horn in future!!

Ill advised but friendly and hopefully he'll take my comments and not do it again.

I must admit my wife does this.

She will follow a cyclist and watch them until it is safe to pass.

If they have been making observations, looking over their shoulders etc, then she will assume they are aware of us and simply overtake\

If they appear oblivious to all around them..... then a quick gentle beep serves to make them aware of us.

Strangely I've seen complete idiots on the roads in just about every make of car.

But then, webuyanycar.com have got their name in a paper on a slow news day, and a reporter didn't have to do any work to get his name next to it. So they're both happy. Why they would commission such a survey when all they're interested in is sitting someone on a forecourt for 10 hours while they whittle a price down is beyond me.

Further down the page there's a headline concerning 23 complaints about Jeremy Clarkson in the Top Gear India Christmas Special (Where he totally failed in my opinion to say anything offensive). Perhaps we can waste a thread on that too.

But then, I'm a BMW driver, so please feel free to ignore the above as it may be an attempt at distraction

There are good drivers and drivers who are less good. I dislike current BMWs as cars, but know many people who own them and adore them. All are fair-to-good drivers and one or two of them are keen cyclists.

To redress the balance on which cars are the worst driven, I compiled a list as a teenager of which cars picked me up the most when I was hitching. As I tended to be in France, the range of marques is skewed:

1. Renault 4
2. Renault 6
3. Citroen A-Series (2cv, Dyane, Ami etc)
4. Peugeot 204/304
5. Citroen GS
6. Simca 1100

But... my 2 best rides were in a 6.9 litre Merc 450 SEL and a simply sumptuous (and fast) BMW 3.3LiA

There are nice people in flash motors. There are also complete gits in ever-so-'umble econoboxes.

I don't like the idea of a BMW driver being poorly thought of by association any more than I like the idea of a carbon-riding lycra missile in team kit being thought a bit of a twat. Both assumptions are frequently false.

I do not now drive and have never driven a BMW.

Er.... I'm HAPPY when a driver bips the horn as long as it's from a hundred yards back; it gives me and my cycling buddy a chance to get in single file and a warning, which we appreciate as often the wind noise in my ears means I don't hear cars until the last minute. I also bip cyclists briefly from 100 yards behind and they seem to appreciate the warning. However a horn sounded just by my right elbow is not welcome as it gives me a fright.

Good old daily telelaugh.

I suppose if they relied on facts alone they wouldn't be able to so much as fill a crisp packet let alone an entire broadsheet.

I'd like to think that most cyclists would know how loud a car horn is when heard outside the confines of an enclosed vehicle. +1 on the reaction, though
