This is often the problem. I had the same yesterday and she even made eye contact with me before pulling out. Some drivers just cannot get it into their thick heads that a cycle may be travelling at more than 20 miles an hour

And in many parts of the country they'll see cyclists travelling slower than that time, after time, after time. Its a real problem, they're used to judging vehicles in part based on what the vehicles are, and if they're conditioned into expecting cyclists to be slow then thats hard to change.

All of which is why we need to take this into account, be tolerant and accept that these are normal people who will make mistakes.

Oh. I thought you normally went out armed with a baseball bat?

Yes... And no. We have to be wise to it, but we should also seek to behave in a way that minimises this risk and which reinforces to those who habitually do this that they're in error.

Common mistake a lot of drivers make in underestimating bike speed. As Magna said it could have been worse if they had decided to put their foot down whilst you were overtaking.

Speakers are bust on my computer, did you give him a blast of the Airzound BM?

Mikey, if you'd only have been riding slightly faster on your journey, you'd have passed that point before that driver had even got there.
Learn to ride quicker.

As for posting a vid of every time it happened I got better things to do with my time. I would be out riding now if it were not raining.

Your right, I really should get a life. We won't make any difference anyway....

If I had the time, I wouldn't be worrying about a little bit of rain, and I would be out cycling anyway....:biggrin:

I'm going to have to move back to the UK. By the time I get on this board (mid day or later UK time) someone's already posted what I'd have said. Either that or I'll start getting up at 2:00am.

And it seems like 99 times out of 100 it's usually Magnatom too (don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing either!).

I'd say bad, bordering on catastrophic!

I'm with Dom on this one, you should have backed off in the knowledge that you had the moral high ground. Instead you choose to blast pass tooting your AZ in retribution, to make a petty point and get a clip you could stick on U-tube.

No wonder lots of drivers think we're a bunch of arses.

I'm not saying people have not got a life, I can just think of better things to do rather than posting a vid, everytime someone pulls out in front of me without giving me enough room.

I also have loads of time on my hands, therefore I will go out when it stops raining.

I don't post every incident! In fact I have 58 videos from about 2 years. So on average 92% of the time, I'm doing something else.

Anyway, it can and does (sometimes) make a difference.

It is harder to spot and judge the speed of cyclists and motorcyclists - but unfortunately this difficulty does seem to make many motorists more cautious at junctions. Lots of drivers woefully underestimate how fast cylists can ride and this adversely affects gap acceptance.

In the clip, I reckon I'd overtake the car on some days and slam on the brakes on others.

I had three incidents of drivers pulling out in front of me on Saturday (all on relatively quiet country lanes so, in each case, they could have waited). Wasn't to miffed about the pulling out bit. It's just the puff of black, cancerous excremet they omit as they stuggle to accelerate away

<paranoia> BTW: Dark coloured Range Rover each time. Could have even been the same one. </paranoia>
