I doubt it, there will always be idiots on the road. You think if a car driver saw yours or BM's vids they would drive better?!?! and treat cyclists with respect?!?! If you do or anyone else does, then your very naive.

Ummmm...... for example. Not meaning to blow my trumpet, but highlighting that people and the media do care....I've also been on national news, national radio, tabloid and broadsheet papers, etc. There are also a good few other folk on here that have been featured in the media because of their videos. All of the media reports, that I know of, have been positive in nature. I think this will have made a difference, even if only a small one.

Sigh, there's no stopping the heavy breathing doc now. You missed out the bit about getting hate mail and death threats though

Wow, another safety intiative, but a few months from now all will be forgotton.

You just have to look at London and the amount of money they have spent on safety intiatives, cycle lanes. But truth be told from the motorists point of view who is going to work or whever, who cares?

Drip, drip, drip. That is the best way, over time to get into the publics minds.

If no-one ever called for change, would anything change?

In the clip, I reckon I'd overtake the car on some days and slam on the brakes on others.

I rekon 95 times out of 100 I'd brake there. Doesn't mean that the motorist was in the right; if the oncoming vehicle has to brake, you pulled out too close.

What you are talking about though is trying to change the overall attitude and mentality of drivers and the way the way they treat cyclists.

I just think that no amount of safety campaigns, cycle lanes, new coverage, you could even run a massive banner across the Houses of parliament if you like. It would make next to no difference to Joe Bloggs on their rush hour commute in their car

That's a very defeatist attitude and luckily one that a lot of people disagree with. Otherwise hardly anyone would wear a seatbelt.......

There's too much of a mixed bag in your listing there. Cycle lanes, for example, tend to turn drivers against cyclists more.

wearing a seatbelt is the law though? and what has that got to do with awareness towards cyclists? I'm not a defeatist just a realist.

Its the law because of the persistence of those who insisted that this was a good idea. Change doesn't just happen.

so in short, nothing mikey could have done to stop another road user pulling out in front of him (hiv viz ... tee hee) but he dealt with it in a safe manner with anticipation and as an added bonus gave the driver a lesson in how fast bikes might be going down that hill

I'll bet they won't pull out like that again in front of a bike, assuming they ever saw him at any point, natch

find it hard to beleive anyone is criticising his riding here

It seems you have having all my bad luck at the moment. I haven't had a notable incident for ages! Keep up the good work!

Oh I should say, bad driving there. Especially the first one. Glad you were turning left!!

But the impact of not wearing a seat belt is as clear as you going though the windscreen if your not wearing one.

I can't see any radical new changes on the horizon for cyclists.

We'll have to just agree to differ on that one.

lol thanks. i dont stage them honest! your bound to be thinking i am paying drivers to do this just so i get it on camera lol. Yes been missing your egg throwing youths etc. as long as it dont end in injury then keep 'em coming. Perhaps you have scared them all down south! Going to be moving to Brixton shortly, so will have much more no doubt to share. Edited this piece last night where i followed this guy from farrington to brixton. don't think he knows red means stop. just got to add music as its 10mins long. yes the first one, i hadny even put my hand out and he was already more then halfway in the road. had no choice but to go left. There was someone on the towpath today wiht his arse hanging out his ripped trousers, not sure if peole want to see that? hehe

Glad you like the vids

Given the huge speed advantage Mikey had over the car going past was reasonable and a toot of the Zound well warranted as this driver had just demonstrated his/her lack of awareness of bike speeds.
I understand why some people think it was a wrong decision but to me the pass looks safe enough, certainly there was more room than many a motorist gives to another driver. The car infront at the end is not pulling away suggesting that Mikey's speed is such that he is not hindering the passed car behind him.
