London black cabs seem lately to have taken to putting all their indicators on at once whenever they're starting, stopping, manoeuvring, changing direction or changing lanes.

I tend to the assumption that they're all bloody hazards anyway, but I suppose the lights help to confirm it

The one that annoys me is when they sit at the red light with no indicators going, then just as the lights start to change they then decide to put them on

giving you very little time to plan your getaway.
But you learn to anticipate these things and it just becomes part of everyday commuting,no point getting stressed over it,after all isn't cycling meant to be relaxing?

Good words potsy!

Do you know what is even worse.

Cyclists who don't indicate.

Always thought that stood for 'iCantDrive' or 'idiot'.

Yes, must admit that irritates me far more. I remember waiting for a cyclist to come across me at a busy T junction, gave him extra time, though most would have pulled out and I missed a rare gap, only for the guy to turn left before he reached me, without even a hint of a signal.

In general I find more cyclists don't signal than car drivers but as Yello says, an indicator only proves the bulb works, I'm generally looking at other clues too, like speed and road position.

I nearly wrote my dad's car (and my kayak thats on the roof) off the year after I'd passed my test.

the watersports centre I was headed to is just off a roundabout on a busy stretch of dual carraigway (pugneys, wakefield)

the road I am coming out of is heavily used, my first exit is the dual carraigway, second is a business park, third is dual carraigway headed into town, forth is the watersports centre and fifth is the road I'm sat in.

car comes speeding down the dual carraigway from my right and is indicating left, I start to move slightly,
he goes past the entrance to the watersports centre, so I assume he's coming down the road I'm coming out of

some sharp braking from me follows, with someone in a truck nearly going into the back of me, nudging me forwards a bit by getting the end of my canoe, because he doesn't take the exit, he's going straight on and has been indicating left all this time to show that.

so, to be honest, I'd rather people not indicate and I'll assume they're going to cut across my path, regardless of their lane choice than them indicate and lead me into a false sense of security in their intentions

Barnet,
There's only one word for not using indicators, and that is LAZINESS. It really winds me up. I am not a mind reader, I don't know where they think they are going, nor do many others, so inevitably the traffic slows down and queues form.

But BMW's do come with the exclusive right to the outside lane on a motorway

not if i'm around.

got a lovely couple of pictures from a road trip in my first car ('79 fiesta) that show me grinning with a rolls royce, lamboghini, ferrari, a porsche and a bmw behind (separate pictures, not one convoy)

its a lane to be used for overtaking, so I use it

I knew a lad years ago, he was one of the first mates I had to pass their test. One day he said to me. "You know Pete when you get your own car you don't use the indicators as much".
"Why's that"?
"It wears the bulbs out".

He was the tightest man I knew even for a Yorkshireman  . Took his beer to a party. Walked through the house and left them round the back. Drank everyone elses beer then picked his up and walked home drinking that. He got the nickname "Twocan". My brother and his mate saw him going into a house with music playing one night. They hung about for 5 mins then went round the back, picked up his beer and left drinking them :becool: .

It's not just drivers.........blinking cyclists too....

Sat in primary this morning in the ASL - two lanes - one for bearing right, one for left/straight on - I'm in the left lane. POB wobbles up by the curb. Lights change, and they pull away and start going right, no indication or no care that I'm right next to him going straight on (or indeed cars in both lanes)..... cue....'Where are you f'ing going' from me and a daggers look at the plonker.......... there are plenty of idiots about.

i have a tendency to not always signal as my hands are often busy with the brakes, I do make sure there is a gap before moving and I also take position that shows my intention.

but downhill right hand turns often just get a signal once I've got my speed down.

I have a email from the guy in charge of Durham Police Traffic Division.

I had written to them after following a marked Police car for several miles through roundabouts and junctions. The car made no indications at all.

He tells me that there is no requirement to signal as the Highway Code only says 'should' not 'must' in regard to indicating.

Personally it drives me mad when drivers or cyclists don't indicate. Apart from the lack of courtesy it shows it also slows down the flow of traffic. But the current thinking seems to be screw the rest of you, I'm all right.

That would look lovely on the internet. Why not scan it and post it somewhere?
